BASF has received federal registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its Engenia® herbicide for over-the-top applications on dicamba-tolerant soybeans and cotton. This new registration provides American farmers with an additional tool to control more than 200 weed species, including those that have become resistant to other herbicides.
Why it matters
Weed resistance to herbicides is an increasing challenge for soybean and cotton farmers, so the new Engenia registration gives them another option to manage tough-to-control and resistant weeds like Palmer amaranth, waterhemp, kochia, morning glory and ragweed, helping to maximize their crop yields.
The details
Engenia herbicide uses an exclusive BAPMA Salt Formulation to deliver consistent knockdown performance against a wide range of broadleaf weeds. BASF is also working with the EPA and state agencies to create training materials and offer a suite of options to ensure farmers and applicators understand the new Engenia label requirements and proper application techniques.
- On Friday, BASF received notice from the EPA of federal registration for Engenia herbicide.
- In 2024, BASF's Agricultural Solutions division generated sales of €9.8 billion.

What they’re saying
“We are excited growers will once again have access to Engenia herbicide. This registration will give soybean and cotton farmers doing the biggest job on Earth an additional tool to control more than 200 weed species and maximize their yields.”
— Scott Kay, Vice President, BASF Agricultural Solutions U.S.
“Helping farmers and applicators understand these new label requirements and proper application techniques is something we take very seriously. Engenia herbicide is a critical tool for cotton and soybean farmers and one of the main ways to ensure this technology remains a tool in the tool box is to ensure farmers and applicators understand how to apply the product according to the label.”
— Nick Fassler, Director, Technical Service, BASF Agricultural Solutions U.S.
What’s next
BASF will continue to work with the EPA and state agencies to create national and state-specific training materials to ensure farmers and applicators understand the new Engenia herbicide label requirements.
The takeaway
The new EPA registration for Engenia herbicide provides soybean and cotton farmers with an important additional tool to combat the growing challenge of herbicide-resistant weeds, helping them maximize their crop yields while also emphasizing the importance of proper stewardship and training to ensure the sustainable use of this technology.
