Spirit Airlines has announced it will resume its seasonal flights from Atlantic City International Airport to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina starting in April. This will mark the return of direct competition on the route, as Allegiant Airlines had recently announced new flights between the two cities. For years, Spirit has been the sole airline offering regularly scheduled service at ACY, also flying to several Florida destinations.
Why it matters
The addition of Allegiant and the resumption of Spirit's Myrtle Beach flights ends Atlantic City International Airport's status as a one-airline airport, providing more options and competition for local travelers. This could lead to lower fares and more convenient flight schedules between the two popular vacation destinations.
The details
Spirit Airlines will operate five flights per week between Atlantic City and Myrtle Beach starting April 15th. This comes after Allegiant Airlines announced new service on the same route. In addition to the Myrtle Beach flights, Spirit also offers service from ACY to several Florida cities including Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Fort Myers, Orlando, and West Palm Beach. Other airlines like United also provide bus service between ACY and Philadelphia Airport.

What they’re saying
“I've flown in and out of Atlantic City regularly for over 20 years. It's easy and quick! It's a very small airport so it's easy to navigate. Parking is close and convenient. It also helps that I live 12 minutes from the airport. Now with three airlines to choose from, it's even better!”

The takeaway
The return of competition at Atlantic City International Airport with the addition of Allegiant Airlines and the resumption of Spirit's seasonal Myrtle Beach flights is a positive development for local travelers, who can now benefit from more flight options and potentially lower fares between ACY and the popular vacation destination of Myrtle Beach.
