The Community Players of Concord are presenting a darkly comedic mystery play based on the Sherlock Holmes stories, with a twist - the lead characters Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson are both women. The show, titled 'Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson, Apt. 2B', is written by Kate Hamill and directed by Vicky Sandin. It will run for three performances from February 13-15 at the Concord City Auditorium.
Why it matters
This production puts a fresh, modern spin on the classic Sherlock Holmes stories by gender-swapping the lead roles and exploring the characters' codependent relationship. It reflects a growing trend in theater to reimagine classic works through diverse perspectives and inclusive casting.
The details
The play follows the oddball roommates Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson as they emerge from a pandemic fog and team up to solve mysteries, with a villain who seems to have all the answers. The cast includes Suzanne Watts as Holmes and Julia Kehr as Watson, along with several other local actors.
- The show will be performed on February 13-15, 2026.
- Performances will be on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

What they’re saying
“I have been a Sherlock Holmes fan since I was a teen, and Kate Hamill's take on the iconic character honors the original text by planting some nuggets from Conan Doyle's stories ('A Study in Scarlet,' 'A Scandal in Bohemia,' 'The Adventure of the Final Problem,' to name a few) in her script, while maintaining Sherlock's basic character and deductive genius.”

“The two leads, Suzanne Watts as Holmes and Julia Kehr as Watson, layer these characters with comic timing and a humanity that is difficult to achieve in a comedy but they do it, and they nail it.”
