Why it matters
Rollover accidents can be extremely dangerous, often resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. This incident highlights the importance of safe driving practices, especially when attempting to pass large vehicles on rural highways.
The details
According to Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger, the accident occurred shortly before 2:40 p.m. on Highway 15, about three-quarters of a mile south of 835th Road. The woman was driving southbound when she attempted to pass a semi-truck and lost control of her vehicle. The Subaru Outback left the highway, went airborne off a driveway, and then rolled several times in a nearby field before coming to a stop at least 50 yards from the highway. The vehicle was considered a total loss, but the woman was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags deployed, which likely prevented more serious injuries.
