The Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has launched a newly redesigned driver license and state identification card, featuring new Nebraska-themed imagery, enhanced security elements, and a black-and-white photo format to better protect residents from identity fraud.
Why it matters
The updated design celebrates the state's people, industry, and landscapes, while integrating the most up-to-date security features to strengthen identity protection for Nebraskans.
The details
The new credentials highlight iconic symbols from across Nebraska, including the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge in Omaha, cattle, wheat, the state insect (the honeybee), and the Wildcat hills. The black-and-white photo format enhances the ability to distinguish facial features, supporting identity verification efforts. Advanced security features have also been added to prevent fraud and counterfeiting.
- The Nebraska DMV will begin issuing the new driver licenses and state ID cards at select locations starting this month.
- All driver licensing service locations across the state will be issuing the new design by mid-April.
The players
Rhonda Lahm
Director of the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles.
Cheryl Porter
Administrator of the Driver Licensing Services Division.
