Nebraska State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg is calling on residents to search for and claim millions of dollars in unclaimed property being held by the state. With over $96 million in unclaimed funds in the Omaha metro area and $28.6 million in Lincoln alone, Spellerberg is urging Nebraskans to visit NebraskaLostCash.gov and MissingMoney.com to see if they have any forgotten assets waiting to be reclaimed.
Why it matters
Unclaimed property represents money that rightfully belongs to individuals and families, which could be used for everyday expenses, major purchases like a home, or savings for the future. By reuniting Nebraskans with their lost funds, the state aims to boost local economies and help residents make the most of their hard-earned money.
The details
The Nebraska State Treasurer's Office serves as the custodian for a wide range of unclaimed financial assets, including uncashed paychecks, insurance benefits, forgotten bank accounts, and more. In 2025, the Unclaimed Property Division returned over $19.7 million to residents through nearly 20,000 claims. With the governor's proclamation of February 1 as Unclaimed Property Day, Spellerberg is launching a statewide push to encourage all Nebraskans to take a minute to search for any funds that may be owed to them.
