The No. 8 Nebraska Cornhusker softball team rallied past the top-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders 3-2 at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational. Freshman pitcher Alexis Jensen earned the win, while junior catcher Jesse Farrell hit a two-run home run and senior outfielder Hannah Coor drove in the game-winning run to lead the Huskers to the upset victory.

Why it matters

This was the second win over a No. 1-ranked team for Nebraska this season, marking the first time in program history the Huskers have beaten two top-ranked opponents in the same year. The win also handed Texas Tech its first loss of the season and highlighted the contributions of Nebraska's talented newcomers, who have stepped up early in the year.

The details

Jensen went head-to-head with Texas Tech's ace pitcher NiJaree Canady and came out on top, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and striking out seven in 4.0 innings. Canady was lifted in the fifth inning after giving up three earned runs on five hits and a walk. Senior Jordy Frahm came in and was perfect, striking out four in 3.0 innings to earn the save. At the plate, Farrell's two-run homer tied the game in the fourth, and Coor's RBI single gave Nebraska the lead.
