The Reading League, a national nonprofit dedicated to promoting research-backed reading instruction, has launched a new chapter in North Dakota. The chapter is led by Jessica Paulsen, a veteran first-grade teacher, who is excited to share the latest literacy research with educators across the state. The North Dakota chapter will offer webinars, discussion groups, and other resources to help teachers implement effective, evidence-based reading programs in their classrooms.
Why it matters
Literacy is a critical skill, and research shows that students who struggle with reading by the end of first grade often have difficulty catching up. The Reading League's mission is to ensure teachers have access to the latest scientific findings on how children learn to read, empowering them to provide the best possible instruction from an early age.
The details
The Reading League North Dakota chapter was officially launched in January 2026, joining 44 other state chapters across the country. The chapter will host a webinar on February 19th focused on the state of the science of reading in North Dakota, covering recent legislation, dyslexia, and other key issues. Paulsen, who has 25 years of experience teaching first grade, is excited to connect teachers with the research-backed strategies and resources provided by The Reading League.
