The Rotary Club of China Grove is spearheading the construction of a new walking trail along the Grant's Creek sewer line right-of-way, with support from the Town of China Grove. The first phase of the trail will run from Patterson Street to Kirk Street, with connecting trails at Stevens Street and Harry Street. A community workday is planned for March 28 to clear the connector trails, remove downed trees and branches, and clean up trash along the trail alignment.
Why it matters
The new Grant's Creek Trail is the beginning of China Grove's piece of the Carolina Thread Trail, which aims to eventually connect Lake Corriher to the northern town limits. The trail will provide residents with a safe, accessible way to enjoy nature and connect the downtown corridor, existing and future neighborhoods, and Community Memorial Park.
The details
The main trail has already been mowed and marked with flags, and some limbs have been removed. Volunteers are needed to clear the connector trails at Stevens and Harry Streets, as well as to remove downed trees, branches, and trash along the trail alignment. Tools needed include rakes, shovels, hoes, and spades. Volunteers should park at Community Memorial Park and walk down Stevens Street to begin work.
- The community workday is scheduled for Saturday, March 28 at 9 a.m.
- The rain date for the workday is Saturday, April 12.

What they’re saying
“We are beginning to construct a walking trail along the Grants Creek sewer line right-of-way from Patterson Street to Kirk Street with connecting trails at Stevens Street and Harry Street. A stream crossing is included in the project and will be installed with the help of the Town of China Grove Public Works Department.”
— Diane Folk, Member, Rotary Club of China Grove
“The Town of China Grove is proud to partner with the China Grove Rotary Club on the first phase of a trail network along Grants Creek. Community workdays like this one are a wonderful example of what happens when residents and organizations come together for a common goal. Once complete, this trail has tremendous potential to connect our downtown corridor, existing and future neighborhoods, and Community Memorial Park, giving residents a safe, accessible way to enjoy nature right here in their own backyard. We hope this project inspires even more community involvement as we continue to grow this trail network together.”
— Jill Sellers, China Grove Parks and Recreation Director
