Penn State guard Freddie Dilione V., who led the Nittany Lions in scoring at 14.0 points per game last season, has announced plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Dilione, a 6'5" redshirt junior, will be the second Penn State player to enter the portal this offseason, following teammate Melih Tunca.
Why it matters
Dilione's departure is a significant blow for the Penn State basketball program, as he was the team's most consistent scorer and playmaker. His decision to transfer opens up a major hole in the Nittany Lions' lineup that will need to be filled ahead of next season.
The details
Dilione averaged 14.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 47.3% from the field in 27.4 minutes per contest last season. He scored a career-high 25 points against both Purdue and Minnesota. Dilione originally joined Penn State as a sophomore transfer from Tennessee in the 2024-2025 season.
- Dilione announced his plans to enter the transfer portal on April 1, 2026.
- The 2026 NCAA Division I men's basketball transfer portal opens on April 7, 2026 and closes on April 21, 2026.

What’s next
Dilione will officially enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal on April 7, 2026, opening up the possibility for him to join a new program ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The takeaway
Dilione's decision to transfer is a significant loss for the Penn State basketball team, as he was their leading scorer and one of their most important players. The Nittany Lions will need to find a way to replace his production and leadership if they hope to remain competitive in the Big Ten next season.
