DuPont announced that its Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) films manufacturing operations in Buffalo, NY, Louisville, KY, and Fayetteville, NC are now powered by 100% renewable electricity through the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). This milestone supports DuPont's commitment to renewable energy adoption and its 2030 Sustainability Goals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Why it matters
Shifting DuPont's Tedlar PVF manufacturing to renewable electricity significantly reduces the company's Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions associated with grid electricity use, supporting its decarbonization strategy. This move also strengthens the environmental profile of Tedlar PVF films, which are widely used in aerospace, construction, and other industries.
The details
DuPont procured approximately 42,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of U.S.-sourced RECs to match the annual electricity consumption of its three Tedlar PVF manufacturing plants. This transition to 100% renewable electricity for Tedlar production reflects DuPont's broader efforts to implement energy efficiency improvements, on-site renewable generation, and strategic renewable electricity procurement across its global operations.
