The No. 7 Florida State softball team split their games on day two of the Dugout Club Classic, run-ruling Dartmouth 8-0 before falling to Alabama 5-1. The Seminoles' offense was led by Marin Heller, Shelby McKenzie, and Makenna Sturgis, but they were unable to overcome a strong pitching performance from Alabama's Jocelyn Briski.
Why it matters
This early-season tournament provides valuable experience for the Seminoles as they look to build momentum heading into ACC play. The split result shows the team's potential but also highlights areas for improvement as they continue to develop their young roster.
The details
In the first game against Dartmouth, Florida State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings, powered by RBIs from Ashtyn Danley, Angelee Bueno, and a two-run home run from Shelby McKenzie. Freshman pitcher Bella Dimitrijevic came in to close out the run-rule victory. Against Alabama, the Seminoles struggled to generate offense against Briski, managing just one run on a solo home run by Sturgis. The Crimson Tide took advantage of some FSU miscues, scoring five runs, including home runs from Alexis Pupillo and Jena Young, to hand the Seminoles their second loss of the tournament.
