SPX FLOW Unveils Upgraded Kombinator 250 for Margarine and Shortening Processing

New model offers more options, reduces downtime and lowers total cost of ownership

Published on Feb. 26, 2026

SPX FLOW has released an upgraded version of the Gerstenberg Schröder® Kombinator® 250 scraped surface heat exchanger (SSHE) for margarine and shortening processing, offering cost-effective, modular options and more sustainable output. The new model supports carbon dioxide (CO₂) refrigeration, enabling up to 20% energy savings and lower carbon emissions compared to cooling with ammonia (NH₃), and provides a hygienic, compact and service-friendly design that further reduces downtime and total cost of ownership.

Why it matters

The upgraded Kombinator 250 helps address key challenges faced by customers in the margarine and shortening processing industry, including reducing operating costs, improving efficiency, and meeting sustainability goals. The addition of a CO₂ refrigeration option provides a more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional ammonia-based cooling systems.

The details

The new Kombinator 250 model offers several benefits, including versatility with a compact footprint and modular design, sustainability through the CO₂ refrigeration option, and cost efficiency with improved serviceability, lower spare part costs, and energy-saving refrigeration options. The SSHE is also designed to uphold high hygiene and safety standards, with certification from the European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group (EHEDG) and the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED).
