Premier, Inc. has announced the latest findings from the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals® program, which identifies the top-performing cardiovascular hospitals in the United States. The program, powered by Premier, analyzes public data to benchmark hospital performance across various measures, including clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, extended outcomes, and patient experience.
Why it matters
The 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals program provides data-driven insights that hospital leaders can use to understand performance variation and improve care for heart patients nationwide. By highlighting the top-performing hospitals, the program aims to drive improvements in cardiovascular care quality and efficiency across the healthcare system.
The details
According to the analysis, the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals outperformed their peer group on all 21 measures evaluated, including a 56% difference in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) inpatient mortality, a 10% difference in complication rates between CABG and Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) patients, and a 19.6% difference in average cost per case for heart failure patients. The study estimates that if all U.S. hospitals performed at the level of the 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals, it could result in over 14,000 additional lives saved, 27,000 fewer complications for bypass and angioplasty patients, and more than $2 billion in potential savings.
- The 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals list was published by Modern Healthcare on February 3, 2026.
