A new art class offered at the Roosevelt County Library in Wolf Point, Montana has drawn an enthusiastic group of adult students. Led by Glasgow artist Cat McIntyre, the 15-week course covers a variety of mediums including watercolors, pencil drawings, and oil painting. The class, which is now in its fifth week, is made possible by grants from the Montana Arts Council and the Western Bank Legacy Endowment Fund.
Why it matters
The art class provides an opportunity for adults in the Wolf Point community to explore their creative interests and rediscover artistic skills they may have let go dormant over the years. The partnership between the library, local arts organizations, and the instructor highlights the value placed on arts education and community engagement.
The details
So far, topics covered in the class have included watercolors, pencil drawings, and oil painting. McIntyre explains that the older female students will each produce two finished oil paintings that will be displayed at the library starting in May. The participants all have some prior background in art and are enthusiastic about brushing up on their skills.
