The Plains School hosted the 2nd Annual KLM Little Guy Wrestling Mixer over the weekend, drawing hundreds of young wrestlers from five teams across western Montana. The event, named in honor of the late coach Kenny L. Marjerrison, featured matches in middle, junior, novice, and beginner classes, with high school wrestlers serving as referees and community members volunteering. Several young wrestlers had standout performances, including undefeated runs by Paisley French, Dillyn Dolby, and Maverick Mull of the host Plains team.
Why it matters
The Little Guy Wrestling Mixer provides an important introduction to the sport for young wrestlers, many of whom are just starting out. It allows them to gain valuable match experience and gives coaches an early look at their talent pool for the upcoming high school seasons. The event also honors the legacy of longtime local wrestling coach Kenny L. Marjerrison, who passed away in a tragic accident in 2017.
The details
The two-day event featured over 200 matches across the different age and skill levels, with wrestlers from Superior, St. Ignatius, Thompson Falls, Hot Springs, and the host Plains team competing. The beginner classes, ranging from 45 to 156 pounds, had the largest turnout on Saturday. Several young wrestlers stood out, including Plains' Paisley French and Dillyn Dolby going undefeated on Friday, and Maverick Mull winning two pins and a technical fall on Saturday. Coaches were pleased with the performance of their young wrestlers, many of whom were competing in their first official matches.
- The 2nd Annual KLM Little Guy Wrestling Mixer took place on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6, 2026.
- The Libby Kootenai Klassic Little Guy Invitational Wrestling Tournament and the Mission Little Guy Tournament are scheduled for the following weekend.
