Bozeman High School and Montana State University have collaborated on a skateboard art exhibition and auction, featuring 89 custom skateboard decks created by 95 artists. The proceeds from the two-week auction will be split evenly between funding a new skatepark project in Ennis and expanding an existing skatepark in Bozeman.
Why it matters
The skateboard art show highlights the growing interest in skateboarding and the need for more accessible public skateparks, especially in smaller Montana communities. The auction proceeds will help turn the Ennis skatepark project into a reality and support the expansion of Bozeman's skatepark, providing more opportunities for local youth to engage in the sport.
The details
The skateboard decks were distributed to students and faculty from Bozeman High, Gallatin High, and Ennis High, as well as Montana State University graphic design students and local artists. The 89 custom-designed decks are now on display at the Robert and Gennie DeWeese Gallery at Bozeman High School and available for purchase through an online auction that runs until February 26th. The auction has already seen bids up to $250 per deck, with 50% of the proceeds going to the Ennis skatepark project and 50% going towards the expansion of the Bozeman skatepark.
- The skateboard decks were distributed to participating artists in December 2025.
- The exhibition at the DeWeese Gallery opened on February 3, 2026.
- The online auction for the skateboard decks runs from February 14 to February 26, 2026.
The players
Patrick Hoffman
An art teacher at Bozeman High School who collaborated on the skateboard art exhibition.
Jeffrey Conger
A graphic design professor at Montana State University who collaborated with Hoffman on the project after being inspired by a group of high school students in Ennis.
Ennis Skatepark Project
A new skatepark project that has already been approved and is expected to break ground at Lions Club Park in Ennis this summer.
Skateboard Alliance of Montana
The organization that will receive the funds from the Bozeman skatepark expansion portion of the auction proceeds.
What they’re saying
“Not everyone can access public land or get out on mountain bikes or have the resources to do so. But you can skate at a skatepark, and you can put your phone down.”
— Patrick Hoffman, Art Teacher, Bozeman High School (kbzk.com)
“Both of these students were drawing and painting, so these are traditional media. This middle one by Chris is a vinyl wrap — it's created digitally and stretched onto the wood.”
— Jeffrey Conger, Graphic Design Professor, Montana State University (kbzk.com)
What’s next
The Ennis skatepark project is expected to break ground at Lions Club Park this summer. The funds from the Bozeman skatepark expansion portion of the auction proceeds will be used by the Skateboard Alliance of Montana to potentially build an entirely new skatepark in Bozeman.
The takeaway
This skateboard art exhibition and auction highlights the growing interest in skateboarding among Montana's youth and the need for more accessible public skateparks, especially in smaller communities. The funds raised will help turn the Ennis skatepark project into a reality and support the expansion of Bozeman's skatepark, providing more opportunities for local residents to engage in the sport.
