Big Sky Resort has opened a new 1,350-square-foot igloo attraction called Iglu, bringing a touch of European alpine tradition to the North American skiing experience. The igloo, constructed entirely of snow by an Austrian company, features an interior bar made of ice blocks, custom furniture, and ice sculptures. The resort hopes the unique structure will provide guests with an unforgettable and lively aprés-ski experience.
Why it matters
Big Sky Resort's parent company, Boyne Resorts, has been focused on incorporating more European-style amenities and experiences at its North American ski areas. The new Iglu attraction is part of this effort to differentiate the resort and give skiers something they've never seen before on this side of the Atlantic.
The details
The Iglu was constructed over the course of just three weeks by a 23-year-old Austrian company called Alpeniglu, which has built over 600 igloos across Europe. The process involves building a frame, blowing man-made snow around it to create the walls, and then carefully removing the frame to reveal the final structure. Engineers worked closely with Alpeniglu to ensure the igloo met all safety requirements, despite the unique snow and ice construction materials. The 90-person capacity igloo features an ice bar, custom furniture from Arhaus, and ice sculptures by artist Shintaro Okamoto.
- Iglu opened on January 24, 2026.
- The resort plans to involve Iglu in various events, including the April 11 pond skim as part of the Spring Series.

What they’re saying
“I think [guests] think it's pretty cool. I would say the biggest reaction is, 'oh wow,' when people see it.”
— Megan Munley, Public Relations Manager
“This was a challenging project... The unique thing about this is, you go from nothing to, three weeks later, being open.”
— Caleb Teigen, Construction Manager
“Built entirely from snow, the Iglu at Big Sky is certainly not your average mountain 'venue', and that's rather the point. The craftsmanship from our Austrian building partners is superb, and the fact the whole structure is fleeting, is unique in its own right.”
