The University of Mississippi Medical Center has opened a new outpatient campus in Ridgeland, Mississippi to expand access to specialty surgical care in the Jackson metro area. The 131,000-square-foot Colony Park North facility includes an ambulatory surgery center, medical office building, and advanced imaging services.

Why it matters

The new Ridgeland campus allows UMMC to deliver more outpatient services in a dedicated facility, improving scheduling, reducing wait times, and creating a better overall experience for patients while keeping the main hospital focused on complex and emergent care.

The details

The Colony Park North campus features a medical office building with specialty clinics in cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, dermatology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic surgery, otolaryngology, and plastic surgery. The ambulatory surgery facility has six operating rooms and two procedure rooms to support a range of same-day surgeries. On-site services include a lab, pre-operative testing, post-operative clinics, physical therapy, pharmacy, and sterile processing.

  • UMMC began phasing in services at the new Ridgeland campus on February 17, 2026.
  • Cardiology services opened on February 17, 2026.
  • Orthopaedic and plastic surgery clinics will open on February 23, 2026.
  • Additional clinics in ophthalmology, gastroenterology, dermatology and otolaryngology are expected to open in April 2026.

What they’re saying

“Modern health care requires delivering the right care in the right setting. By moving appropriate outpatient services into a facility designed specifically for them, we can improve scheduling, reduce wait times, and create a better overall experience for patients and families while keeping the main hospital focused on complex and emergent care.”

— Dr. Alan Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, UMMC (UMMC)

What’s next

UMMC plans to continue expanding services at the Ridgeland campus throughout the spring of 2026, with additional specialty clinics in ophthalmology, gastroenterology, dermatology and otolaryngology expected to open in April.

The takeaway

The new Ridgeland outpatient campus allows UMMC to deliver more specialized care closer to where patients live, while also freeing up the main hospital to focus on the most complex and urgent cases. This model of decentralized outpatient care is becoming increasingly common as health systems aim to improve access and convenience for patients.
