The completion of the Galloway Creek Stormwater Detention Basin and the expanded earthen dam in West Plains, Missouri were completed by late 2025. These infrastructure upgrades help to better manage peak flow volumes of stormwater during weather events. PENETRON ADMIX SB, a crystalline concrete waterproofing admixture, was specified to optimize the service life of the new concrete structures.
Why it matters
West Plains, a town of over 12,000 people, has faced challenges with its stormwater system being overwhelmed during severe weather events. The new Galloway Creek Stormwater Detention Basin and earthen dam project aims to improve stormwater management and reduce peak flow volumes that can disrupt the town's wastewater treatment. Using Penetron's concrete waterproofing technology helps ensure the long-term durability and service life of these critical municipal infrastructure assets.
The details
The Galloway Detention Basin retention tank is a below-grade concrete tank structure that holds stormwater runoff to reduce peak flow volumes in the downstream system until it can be forwarded to the West Plains wastewater treatment plant. The earthen dam consists of an embankment and cast-in-place concrete principle and auxiliary spillways. Both were constructed by John Adams Construction. PENETRON ADMIX SB was specified to treat the ready-mix concrete for the detention basin and dam spillways to provide waterproofing and prevent corrosion of the embedded reinforcing steel.
