The Farmington Knights track and field teams dominated the Rebel Relays meet on Friday in Park Hills, capturing team titles in both the boys and girls divisions. Farmington collected 10 event championships and placed second in 11 others to build healthy leads in the standings. Junior Dylan Melvin set a new school record in the 300-meter hurdles and also won the 110-meter hurdles for the Fredericktown boys.
Why it matters
The Rebel Relays served as an early season preview of the Missouri Area Athletic Association (MAAA) conference, with all MAAA programs plus several other schools competing. Farmington's strong performance establishes them as a team to beat in the conference this season, while Fredericktown's Dylan Melvin showed he will be a force in the hurdles events.
The details
Farmington was led by junior Hazel Perret, who won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump. The Knights also got victories from Josh McCarthy in the 100 and 200 dashes, Owen Barron in the pole vault, and their 4x800 relay team. On the boys side, Ste. Genevieve's Paul Taylor won the shot put and discus, while teammate Talan Pinkley swept the long and triple jumps.
