Strong storms that moved through the Parkland region of southeast Missouri on Sunday evening produced a confirmed EF-1 tornado and several reports of wind damage across multiple counties, including damage to outbuildings, barns, a mobile home, and power lines. Emergency crews are monitoring the situation, though no injuries have been reported.
Why it matters
Severe weather events like tornadoes and high winds can cause significant property damage and pose risks to public safety, making it important for local authorities and residents to be prepared and responsive when such storms strike.
The details
According to the National Weather Service, the EF-1 tornado touched down just north of Highway 72 about two miles southwest of Sedgewickville in Bollinger County, causing damage to several outbuildings and barns in the area. Strong winds also caused damage in Madison County, where an outbuilding collapsed at Buckhorn General Baptist Church and a nearby road was temporarily blocked by a downed tree. In Marquand, storm winds blew the roof off a mobile home. In St. Francois County, wind gusts were estimated at around 60 miles per hour, with a rotating wall cloud or funnel cloud photographed south of Park Hills before a carport was lifted and set on top of a nearby house. Power lines in the area were also bent by the strong winds. Storm damage was also reported in Ste. Genevieve County, where tree debris blocked part of Highway D north of Highway O near Leadington.
