I-70 Segment West of Oak Grove to Close This Weekend

Missouri Department of Transportation to shut down interstate for bridge removal

Published on Feb. 12, 2026

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced that a section of Interstate 70 between exits 24 and 28, or between Grain Valley and Oak Grove, will be closed starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The closure is needed to allow for the removal of the Lefholz Road bridge. MoDOT expects to reopen the westbound lanes around 7 a.m. on Monday, with eastbound traffic resuming around 3 p.m. that same day.

Why it matters

This closure is part of the Improve I-70's Blue Springs to Odessa project, which will add a third lane of travel on I-70 and make improvements to interchanges in Bates City and Odessa. The closure will cause disruptions for drivers in the area, but is necessary to facilitate the bridge removal and ongoing infrastructure upgrades.

The details

During the closure, traffic needing to get around the area can use Routes BB, FF, and H. The replacement bridge is expected to open in July 2026, weather permitting.
