The Saline County Career Center and Marshall High School in Missouri will soon become the newest addition to the Missouri Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program. The Marshall Public Schools Board of Education approved a memorandum of understanding to establish the program, which provides another pathway for students to achieve career-readiness.
Why it matters
The JAG program aims to help students develop job skills and prepare for life after high school. Its introduction to Marshall is seen as a positive step in supporting student success and expanding career opportunities.
The details
Making the pitch for JAG were four students from the program at Brookfield, led by advisers Stephanie Berger and Sarah Willis. Damien Gunter, who joined JAG three years ago at Brookfield, says he's gained more than just job skills from the program, including the opportunity to represent his region on the Missouri JAG officer team and attend conferences across the state and in Washington. Marshall will hire a JAG specialist this spring and begin identifying students who may benefit from the program, with the goal of having as many as 60 students join next school year.
