Jonathan India belted a grand slam and Kyle Isbel also homered as the host Kansas City Royals defeated the Minnesota Twins 13-9 on Wednesday. Maikel Garcia drove in three runs as the Royals' Nos. 6-9 hitters combined to go 10-for-16 with eight RBIs and nine runs. Noah Cameron (1-0) earned the win for the Royals, who extended their winning streak to three games.
Why it matters
The Royals' offensive outburst, led by their bottom of the order hitters, was a welcome sight after the team struggled to score runs in their first four games of the season. The win also keeps the Royals within striking distance of the division-leading Twins in the early stages of the AL Central race.
The details
India's grand slam in the sixth inning capped a seven-run frame for the Royals, who banged out 15 hits on the day. Isbel, Caglianone, Collins and Garcia all contributed key hits and RBIs to the Royals' offensive explosion. Minnesota made a late push with three runs in the seventh and three more in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Royals' early lead.
- The game was played on Wednesday, April 2, 2026.
- The Royals scored seven runs in the sixth inning.

What they’re saying
“We've got to keep this offensive momentum going. When the bottom of the order is producing like that, it makes us a tough team to beat.”
— Jonathan India, Royals Infielder
What’s next
The Royals will look to continue their winning streak on Friday when they host the Detroit Tigers. The Twins will try to bounce back on Thursday when they open a series against the Chicago White Sox.
The takeaway
The Royals' offensive outburst, led by their bottom-of-the-order hitters, was a much-needed boost after a slow start to the season. If Kansas City can continue to get production throughout their lineup, they could emerge as a contender in the AL Central race.
