The top-ranked Minnesota West women's basketball team defeated Ridgewater 87-50 to finish the regular season undefeated in conference play, the first time they've accomplished that feat under coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka. The Minnesota West men's team, however, fell to Ridgewater 119-90, ending their season with a 12-15 record and a three-game losing streak.
Why it matters
The Lady Jays' undefeated conference record makes them the team to beat heading into the region tournament, where they will look to continue their dominant season. Meanwhile, the Bluejays' season-ending struggles see them fall short of the region playoffs, ending their campaign on a sour note.
The details
The Lady Jays honored their four sophomore players pregame, with coach Hayenga-Hostikka praising their contributions over the past two years. Despite 20 turnovers, the Lady Jays pulled away with 26-point quarters in the second and fourth frames. Katrina Schutz led the way with 24 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. For the Bluejays, they were tied 46-46 at halftime with Ridgewater, but gave up 73 points in the second half as the Warriors pulled away. Tyrese Mayo scored 31 points for Ridgewater, while DeAndre Holloway added 21. Keion Irvin paced the Bluejays with 18 points.
