PH United men's wrestlers compete to go to State Tournament

Four freshmen wrestlers from the Proctor Hermantown team fell short of qualifying for the Minnesota State High School League Championships.

Published on Feb. 25, 2026

The Proctor Hermantown Men's Wrestling Team traveled to Rock Ridge High School in Virginia last Friday and Saturday to compete in the Section 7AA tournament, with the hopes of joining one of their female wrestlers, Isabella McPhee, at the Minnesota State High School League Championships. Unfortunately, none of the four freshmen wrestlers - Jamichael Cline (121 lbs), Kaiden Krueger (189 lbs.), Bryson Eischen (215 lbs.) and Jose Monreal (285 lbs) - were able to qualify for the state tournament.

Why it matters

The Proctor Hermantown wrestling program has been working to build up its boys' team, with these four freshmen representing the future of the program. While they fell short this year, their performance shows promise for the years to come as they gain more experience competing at the section tournament level.

The details

Jamichael Cline, in his first section tournament, went 2-2 to finish in seventh place. Kaiden Krueger dropped his championship quarter final bout, then picked up a pin in the consolation quarter final before falling in his attempt to reach the consolation semifinals. Bryson Eischen broke through to finish in fourth place and reach the podium in his second section tournament, after placing fifth last year. Jose Monreal went 0-2 in his section tournament debut, but had a strong regular season with 18 wins against 12 losses in his first year of varsity wrestling.

  • The section tournament took place last Friday and Saturday (February 21-22, 2026).
  • The Minnesota State High School League Championships are scheduled for February 25-28, 2026 at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul.

What they’re saying

“When you truly consider what these young wrestlers accomplished throughout the season and in this tournament, you have to be impressed. These young men are just beginning to scratch the surface of their immense potential.”

What’s next

The four freshmen wrestlers from Proctor Hermantown will look to build on their experiences from this year's section tournament and return stronger next season in pursuit of qualifying for the state championships.

The takeaway

While the Proctor Hermantown boys' wrestling team fell short of sending any wrestlers to the state tournament this year, the performance of these four freshmen shows promise for the future of the program. With more experience under their belts, they will look to make a stronger push for state qualification in the coming years.
