In recognition of Black History Month, 100 Black Men of the Twin Cities (100BMTC) and Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities (BBBSTC) have announced a strategic partnership to focus on expanding mentorship, leadership development, and community connection for Black male youth across the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. The partnership aims to mobilize more Black men to become mentors while also providing consistent engagement and support through 100BMTC's Jr. 100 programming for youth waiting to be matched with a Big Brother.
Why it matters
This partnership reflects the legacy of Black leadership and collective responsibility by investing in the next generation of Black leaders. It addresses the critical need for caring, consistent adult role models in the lives of young people, especially Black male youth, who often face long waitlists to be matched with a Big Brother mentor.
The details
The partnership between 100BMTC and BBBSTC will work to expand mentorship opportunities and leadership development for Black male youth in the Twin Cities. BBBSTC currently has a waitlist of over 600 youth, and the demand is especially high for male mentors, with some young people waiting more than two years for a match. The partnership will mobilize more Black men to become mentors while also providing consistent engagement, exposure to Black leadership, and a strong sense of belonging through 100BMTC's Jr. 100 programming for youth awaiting a one-to-one match.
- The partnership was announced on February 10, 2026, in recognition of Black History Month.
