Estonian solar roofing company Roofit.Solar has launched its first project in the United States, installing its Velario solar roof system on a new private residence in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Velario system integrates high-efficiency monocrystalline solar cells directly into standing-seam metal roofing panels, creating a roof that serves as both weather protection and a power generator. Roofit.Solar has completed over 3,000 installations globally, mostly in Europe, before making its US debut through a partnership with US installer ArcEdge.
Why it matters
Building-integrated solar has struggled to gain traction in the US market, largely due to higher costs compared to traditional rack-mounted panels. However, as companies like Roofit.Solar obtain the necessary certifications and prove the reliability of their integrated solar roof systems, it could help drive wider adoption of this aesthetic and space-saving approach to residential solar.
The details
Roofit.Solar's Velario system recently received UL certification after testing for fire resistance, electrical safety, and weather durability. The Kalamazoo project added 12.32 kW of solar capacity to a newly built private residence designed to run on solar power. Roofit.Solar says it has completed over 3,000 installations globally before making its US debut, and the company believes demand is growing among American property owners seeking distributed clean energy systems that don't alter a building's appearance.
- Roofit.Solar completed the Kalamazoo, Michigan installation in late 2025.
- Roofit.Solar was founded in 2016 and is now active in more than 30 countries.
