A rare 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS in silver with blue leather interior is heading to auction. The Pininfarina-designed targa was originally won in a raffle at the Grand Rapids Public Museum before eventually making its way to California with just 15,000 miles on the odometer. The mid-engine sports car features a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 with four Weber carburetors, a five-speed manual transaxle, and a limited-slip differential.

Why it matters

The Ferrari 308 GTS is an iconic sports car from the Italian automaker's history, known for its distinctive wedge shape and mid-engine layout. This particular example in the uncommon silver color is especially rare and desirable for collectors, as most 308s were produced in the traditional red.

The details

The 308 GTS features Pininfarina's signature design with a targa-style removable roof panel. Under the hood is a 2.9-liter quad-cam V8 engine with four Weber 40DCNF carburetors, producing 237 horsepower. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle with a gated dogleg shifter and a limited-slip differential. The suspension is fully independent with double wishbones front and rear, and the car rides on 14-inch Campagnolo five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin is trimmed in blue leather and features bolstered seats, a leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel, and Veglia Borletti instrumentation.
