Flint Township's Board of Trustees has approved a rezoning and the conditions for a 259-home residential development along West Maple Avenue. The project, known as Ambers Wheat West, is being developed by Allen Edwin Homes and could start construction later this year.

Why it matters

The new development aims to address a shortage of quality rental and for-sale homes in the township and county, providing a mix of housing options for residents.

The details

The 86-acre development will include 116 single-family homes in a site condominium subdivision, 99 single-family rental homes, and 44 rental townhome units. Homes in the for-sale portion will range from 1,600 to 2,300 square feet, while rental homes will range from 1,800 to 2,085 square feet. Townhomes will be around 1,450 square feet. The development will have both public and private roads, sidewalks, 23 acres of common open space, and a mix of ranch-style, two-story and bi-level home designs.

  • The development will be constructed in two phases between 2026 and 2030.
  • Phase one will include 230 homes on roughly 59 acres, with phase two adding 29 homes.
