Wanxiang A123 Systems Corp. has introduced its Star Series semi-solid-state battery cells and Star River Series immersion cooling systems, which the company says redefine energy storage safety from the materials level to full system architecture. The technologies are designed to address the industry's critical challenge of thermal runaway, which has led to nearly 50 energy storage fires globally in the past year.

Traditional liquid lithium-ion batteries are vulnerable to physical damage and thermal instability, but Wanxiang A123's new solutions demonstrate unprecedented intrinsic safety. Wanxiang A123's "Full-Domain Ice Sealing" technology immobilizes the electrolyte in a semi-solid state, dramatically reducing reactivity under mechanical stress. Additional safety features include an internal Safety Grid and external Armor Coating to prevent internal short circuits. The Star River Series employs advanced immersion cooling, fully submerging cells in a dielectric insulating coolant to manage system-level thermal issues. The platform is deployed across four specialized solutions tailored to high-risk and mission-critical applications like data centers, outdoor installations, offshore, and transport-constrained environments.
