Region Boys Basketball Teams Sent to Five District Tournaments

The Michigan High School Athletic Association has released the draws for the first stage of the state tournament for boys basketball. Monroe County Region teams will compete in five different Districts, with Jefferson hosting a Division 2 event and Erie Mason selected for a Division 3 event. Region teams will also go to Trenton (Division 1), Tecumseh (Division 2), and Morenci (Division 4) for District tournaments.

The District tournaments mark the start of the state basketball playoffs, with teams vying to advance through the tournament and ultimately reach the state championship games. The hosting assignments for Jefferson and Erie Mason are significant, as they provide home-court advantages for those schools and their communities.

The details

The District tournament pairings were announced by the MHSAA. In Division 1, Bedford will face Trenton, and Monroe will take on Gibraltar Carlson, with the winners advancing to face Woodhaven and New Boston Huron respectively. In Division 2 at Jefferson, Airport will play Flat Rock, and Ida will meet Dundee, with the winners facing Grosse Ile and the Jefferson-Airport/Flat Rock winner. In the other Division 2 District at Tecumseh, Adrian Madison will play the host school, and Milan will battle Brooklyn Columbia Central. In Division 3 at Erie Mason, Taylor Prep will square off against Ypsilanti Arbor Prep, and SMCC will take on Riverview Gabriel Richard. The Division 4 District at Morenci will feature Britton Deerfield against the host school, and Lenawee Christian against the winner of that game, as well as Summerfield against Waldron.

• The District tournament games will be played on Monday, February 23, Wednesday, February 25, and Friday, February 27.
• The finals in each District will be held on Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
