Michigan Supreme Court to Hold Oral Arguments at Bay City High School

The Michigan Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case of People v. Jennings at Bay City Central High School on April 22 as part of its Court Community Connections outreach program. Local students will participate in pre-argument briefings and a post-argument debrief led by court officials, as well as have the opportunity to meet the Justices at a reception following the hearing.

The Court Community Connections program aims to demystify the judicial process and give students a firsthand look at the state's highest court in action. By bringing the Supreme Court to a local high school, the event provides an invaluable educational opportunity for students to engage with the legal system.

The details

In the days leading up to the April 22 event, local attorneys will provide students with pre-argument briefings to prepare them for the oral arguments. Michigan Supreme Court Commissioners will also offer an additional pre-argument session. After the hearing, the Chief Operating Officer will lead a post-argument debrief, and students will have a chance to ask questions of the attorneys. The program will conclude with a reception where students can meet and take photos with the Justices.
