According to Maryland State Police, the Isuzu box truck was traveling northbound on Route 480 when it crossed the center line into the southbound lane. The driver of the Kia Sorento, Joseph Dsouza, attempted to avoid a head-on collision by driving onto the shoulder, but the vehicles still collided. Dsouza was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger, Hillary Coelho of Kuwait, was airlifted to a local trauma center. The box truck driver, James Sherry, was also hospitalized.
