According to authorities, deputies with the St. Mary's Sheriff's Office were on patrol in Lexington Park on Monday night when they heard gunshots. They responded to the area and found a red Chevrolet Equinox with a broken passenger-side window. When deputies attempted to speak with the driver, the driver fled, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, deputies observed the driver, identified as Vanecalus Quntya Alexander, throw an object from the vehicle, which was later recovered and found to be a loaded .223-caliber semi-automatic short-barreled rifle with a high-capacity magazine. The pursuit continued until the driver stopped the SUV in front of a residence, where he was taken into custody without further incident.
