The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) has provided over $1 million in direct financial assistance to Sailors, Marines, and their families who have been evacuated from Bahrain since the conflict with Iran began more than 30 days ago. The families received $500 grants and support services as they made their way to safe havens in the United States.
Why it matters
The sudden evacuation of military families from Bahrain due to the escalating conflict with Iran has caused significant disruption and financial hardship. The NMCRS has stepped in quickly to offer critical aid and resources to help these families through the transition.
The details
After leaving Bahrain with little notice, the families initially landed on military bases in Europe before making their way to safe havens in the U.S. NMCRS set up a support station at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, where many of the families arrived, to provide grants, counseling, and other assistance. The organization is now shifting to a 'recovery mode' to continue supporting the families as they settle in their new locations.

“These two teenagers and their two 50-pound dogs, I got to meet them at BWI, because our directors from overseas were watching them, and they said, please make sure we have a warm hand-off.”

“And the 7-year-old girl was so scared, she said, 'Please don't make us go back to where the missiles are flying.' Seven years old. seven years old. So, I mean, these things take a toll on the families, our parents, you know, our moms and dads, who also wear that other hat.”
