According to charging documents, on September 6, 2025, police found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his right knee near the 3000 block of Mt. Pleasant Avenue. Surveillance footage appears to show Buettner abruptly stopping his Jeep Liberty next to the victim, who was walking in the roadway. The victim then reached for a handgun from his waistband and fired at Buettner's vehicle. Buettner then exited his vehicle, retrieved his own gun, and returned fire, striking the victim in the leg.
