It's the biggest fight in boxing in years. Teofimo Lopez of Brooklyn (22-1, 13 KOs) and Newark-born Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) will meet at a sold-out Madison Square Garden on Saturday on DAZN PPV. The Ring and Lopez's WBO Junior Welterweight titles are on the line, but the stakes are far higher than the belts as the winner will have a good argument as the top American talent in boxing and cement a Hall of Fame legacy.
Why it matters
Teofimo vs Shakur is considered the most consequential fight between two Americans since Terence Crawford vs Errol Spence Jr. in 2019. The winner will instantly secure a place on the Top Ten pound-for-pound list and become the face of American boxing.
The details
Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson rose through the New York amateur system and have been well acquainted for more than a decade. Tensions have been high between the fighters and their camps, including a brawl at the weigh-in. Stevenson is the top defensive fighter in boxing, while Lopez has shown he can deal with skilled opponents but has also had perplexing performances. Stevenson is expected to lean into his strengths and force Lopez to come at him, while Lopez will need to fight with volume and aggression to pressure Stevenson.
- The main card starts at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on Saturday, January 30, 2026.
- Lopez weighed in at 139.5 pounds, and Stevenson at 138.5 pounds on Friday.

What they’re saying
“Everyone talks about making boxing great again, and you've got to tip your hat off to Shakur and Teo, because Shakur is dominating the 135-pound division.”
— Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport chairman
“It's all business. I'm not treating it that way, but I'm one hundred percent focused and we'll see on Saturday night.”
— Shakur Stevenson
“He's his own person and a student of the game. He has taken aspects from the great Andre Ward, the great Roy Jones, yet he's borrowed from all of them and blended them into his own mix. Now, he's Shakur Stevenson. One of a kind.”
— James Prince, Shakur Stevenson's grandfather
What’s next
The judge in the case will decide on Tuesday whether or not to allow Walker Reed Quinn out on bail.
The takeaway
This case highlights growing concerns in the community about repeat offenders released on bail, raising questions about bail reform, public safety on SF streets, and if any special laws to govern autonomous vehicles in residential and commercial areas.
