A striking still life captures the natural elegance and environmental value of the trees being distributed to Eversource customers through the company's partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.Springfield TodayFor the third consecutive year, Eversource is teaming up with the Arbor Day Foundation to distribute more than 1,000 free trees to customers in select Massachusetts communities. Through the Energy-Saving Trees program, eligible customers can reserve one complimentary tree per household and use an interactive platform to find the optimal location to plant it and calculate the environmental and cost-saving benefits.
Why it matters
This initiative aligns with Eversource's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship, as strategically placed trees can provide shade, improve air quality, support biodiversity, and help regulate the electric grid. The program also supports municipalities' own sustainability goals by enhancing urban tree canopies.
The details
Customers in New Bedford and Pittsfield will be able to reserve their free trees through the online portal, choosing from a variety of species like Eastern Redbud, Flowering Dogwood, River Birch, and Sweetbay Magnolia. The trees will be distributed at community events in late April or early May. Eversource has previously brought this program to other Massachusetts cities, including Framingham, Springfield, West Springfield, and Waltham.
