A new survey from Bright Horizons Family Solutions found that 81% of working parents report the 'village' of people they can rely on for child care during the workday has shrunk compared to previous generations. The research reveals that family dynamics have shifted, putting added pressure on working parents who now feel at the mercy of others or guilty for having to ask for help with child care. Many working parents wish they had more reliable, formal care options and want their employers to play a bigger role in supporting their 'parenting village'.

Many parents also feel they are at the mercy of others' generosity (62%) and are constantly stressed about what they would do if their regular child care fell through (56%). The research indicates the 'village' of family, friends and neighbors that has traditionally helped raise children is no longer as consistently available, leaving families without a safety net.
