A new inclusive community initiative called Nathan's Sensory Village is launching this Saturday in Lynn, Massachusetts. The free, wheelchair-accessible space is designed for children ages 4 to 13 to engage in sensory exploration, movement, and social connection. The program was founded by Louise Dominique, a local advocate who saw a lack of inclusive programs for children with disabilities in the city.
Why it matters
The creation of Nathan's Sensory Village aims to address a critical gap in services for children with disabilities in Lynn. By providing an accessible and inclusive space for sensory-based activities and free play, the program seeks to foster understanding, build community, and influence how future leaders view disability.
The details
Nathan's Sensory Village will feature rotating activity stations designed to meet children where they are developmentally and emotionally, including a movement corner, calming zones, and hands-on sensory experiences like tactile play and sensory bins. Participation is flexible and individualized, with the goal of creating a welcoming environment for all children. The program is free of charge, with funding from the city's disability commission covering the cost of the gym space.
- Nathan's Sensory Village will launch this Saturday, February 28, 2026.
