The Boston Celtics have signed two-way wing Ron Harper Jr., the son of former Los Angeles Lakers guard and five-time NBA champion Ron Harper, to a new two-year contract. Harper has played a key role in the Celtics' rotation this season while also spending time with their G League affiliate in Maine.

Why it matters

The Celtics are looking to bolster their wing depth as they prepare for the final stretch of the regular season and the playoffs. Harper, a 6-foot-5 scorer, provides additional scoring punch and perimeter defense to complement star wing Jaylen Brown.

The details

Harper, 25, enjoyed a productive collegiate career at Rutgers before joining the Toronto Raptors as an undrafted free agent in 2022. He spent the majority of his first two NBA seasons in the G League, only appearing in 10 games with the Raptors. Harper joined the Detroit Pistons for the 2024-25 season but again saw limited playing time in the NBA. This season with the Celtics, Harper is averaging 3.4 points per game while shooting 39.8% from the field and 34.4% from 3-point range.
