Virgin Atlantic has filed updated operational plans for the Northern Summer 2026 season, marking significant frequency increases on routes to India and capacity adjustments across its North American network. The carrier is expanding its presence in the Indian market, specifically targeting Bengaluru with a 13 weekly flight schedule, and making aircraft allocation changes on key routes to Delhi, New York, Los Angeles, and other destinations.
Why it matters
The network changes reflect Virgin Atlantic's strategic focus on high-demand business routes to India and key transatlantic hubs, while adjusting seasonal leisure capacity in the Caribbean and North America. The expanded India service also benefits travelers from North America, with improved connectivity through Virgin's partnership with IndiGo.
The details
Virgin Atlantic plans to increase service between London Heathrow and Bengaluru from seven to 13 weekly flights effective June 1, 2026, utilizing the Boeing 787-9 aircraft. On the London Heathrow to Delhi route, the airline will operate a daily service using the 397-seater Airbus A350-1000, replacing a previous mix of A350-1000 and 335-seater aircraft. Significant capacity increases are also planned for the carrier's flagship route to New York JFK, with total one-way capacity offered rising from 349,514 to 383,781 seats. Several flight numbers on the JFK route will see aircraft swaps between the A330-900neo and A350-1000. On the West Coast, the London Heathrow to Los Angeles route will see alternating aircraft types between the 787-9 and A350-1000.
