Axle AI, a leader in the on-premise media asset management (MAM) space, has purchased the Portfolio product line from Extensis, a Monotype company. Axle AI has formed a new division, Portfolio DAM, LLC, to focus on the product and plans to maintain Portfolio's core emphasis on easy-to-use, on-premise digital asset management (DAM) software for workgroups and enterprises, while expanding its capabilities with new advances in on-premise AI, process automation, and video handling.
Why it matters
The acquisition highlights the growing trend towards on-premise creative workflows, as content teams and IT departments seek to centralize their assets and address concerns around cloud-based AI tools and 'cloud sprawl'. Axle AI sees this shift as a key driver of its double-digit annual growth since its founding.
The details
As part of the transition, Axle AI has hired Richard Bamford, a longtime Portfolio product specialist and thought leader in the DAM industry, as Product Manager for Portfolio DAM. The team has begun working on the codebase prior to the announcement and is making a new version of the software, Portfolio 4.1.1, available for beta testing, which includes major upgrades to the underlying Apache Tomcat and Java Runtime Environment, as well as the removal of the requirement for Windows Server.
