Actor Denver Milord takes on lead role in acclaimed play about a Fleetwood Mac-inspired band.

Actor Denver Milord has landed the starring role of Peter in the touring production of the acclaimed play 'Stereophonic', which tells the story of a Fleetwood Mac-esque band working on its sophomore album in 1976. Milord, a fan of rock music and musical theater, says the role is an ideal fit as the play features live performances of original songs composed by Arcade Fire's Will Butler.

Why it matters

Plays that blend rock music and drama are rare, but 'Stereophonic' has found critical success, earning multiple Tony nominations and awards in 2024. The play provides audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process and interpersonal dynamics of a band, similar to the acclaimed documentary 'The Beatles: Get Back'.

The details

Milord, who started playing guitar at age 11 and studied acting at Carnegie Mellon, says 'Stereophonic' is a perfect role for him as it combines his love of rock music, acting, and musical theater. Unlike a traditional musical, the play features the actors performing the original songs live on stage, rather than having a pit orchestra. The play runs March 10-15 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston.

  • Milord first became interested in the play in October 2024 when he scored an understudy role.
  • The play premiered on Broadway in 2024 and earned a record-breaking 13 Tony nominations, winning 5 awards.

What they’re saying

“I helped a friend read for an understudy (role) when it was moving to Broadway, and while I was reading I was thinking, 'Wow, this is such great writing, and I think I'd be great for this.'”

— Denver Milord, Actor (Boston Herald)

“There's a fine line that has to be walked when composing music for the theater and I get a little cringed out by (some musical theater). Will Butler did such a great job. He took a little inspiration from the script here and there and infused that into the lyrics, but the songs in no way advance the story like a traditional musical.”
