As Massachusetts prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, a new project called Echoes of Liberty is bringing the stories of three influential Black historical figures to life through immersive storytelling. The project, created by producer, writer and director Nerissa Williams Scott, aims to underscore the crucial role of Black Americans during the revolutionary era, including the stories of Elizabeth "Mumbet" Freeman, Prince Hall, and Christmas Addicks, who is widely recognized as the first person killed in the American Revolution.

Why it matters

Echoes of Liberty is an important effort to include and highlight the often overlooked contributions of Black Americans to the founding of the United States. By sharing the stories of these revolutionary-era figures, the project helps to provide a more complete and accurate understanding of the country's history.

The details

The Echoes of Liberty project is being produced at Anawan Studios in Brockton, Massachusetts.
