Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have announced the launch of a new AI startup called Luffu that aims to help families proactively monitor their health. Luffu is an "intelligent family care system" that will start with an app and expand into hardware devices, using AI to gather and organize family health information, learn daily patterns, and surface alerts about potential issues.
Why it matters
With 63 million family caregivers in the U.S., up 45% in the last 10 years, Park and Friedman see an opportunity to use technology to lighten the mental burden of caregiving. Luffu is designed to provide a centralized platform for families to track health data and receive proactive insights, helping them stay aligned and address concerns early.
The details
Luffu uses AI to gather and organize family health information like stats, diet, medications, symptoms, lab tests, and doctor visits. Users can log data via voice, text, or photos, and Luffu will watch for changes and surface relevant alerts, such as unusual vitals or shifts in sleep patterns. The platform also allows families to ask questions in plain language to get information about their health.

What they’re saying
“At Fitbit, we focused on personal health—but after Fitbit, health for me became bigger than just thinking about myself. I was caring for my parents from across the country, trying to piece together my mom's health care across various portals and providers, with a language barrier that made it hard to get complete, timely context from her about doctor visits. I didn't want to constantly check in, and she didn't want to feel monitored. Luffu is the product we wished existed—to stay on top of our family's health, know what changed and when to step in—without hovering.”
— James Park (Press Release)
“We designed Luffu to capture the details as life happens, keep family members updated and surface what matters at the right time—so caregiving feels more coordinated and less chaotic.”
— Eric Friedman (Press Release)

The takeaway

By providing a centralized platform to track and surface insights about a family's wellbeing, Luffu aims to make it easier for families to stay informed and address potential issues proactively.
