Ring, the Amazon-owned home security company, is expanding its 'Search Party' feature to allow all Ring app users across the U.S. to leverage the network of cameras to help find lost pets, even if they don't own a Ring camera themselves. The feature, which uses AI to scan nearby footage for matches to a lost dog, has already reunited more than one pet per day since its launch last fall. Ring is also committing $1 million to equip 4,000 animal shelters with Ring camera systems to further improve the chances of lost pets being returned to their owners.
Why it matters
The expansion of Ring's Search Party feature aims to create a more robust community-based system for finding lost pets, which can be a stressful and difficult experience for pet owners. By making the tool available to all Ring app users, Ring is empowering more people to assist in these efforts and increasing the chances of successful reunions.
The details
Ring's Search Party feature uses AI to scan footage from nearby Ring cameras when a user reports a lost pet. If a match is found, the camera owner receives an alert and can choose to share relevant video clips with the pet owner, as well as contact them directly. Previously, the feature was only available to Ring camera owners, but now any Ring app user can utilize it to help find lost dogs in their community.
- The Search Party feature was launched by Ring in the fall of 2025.
- Ring is now making the feature available to all Ring app users across the U.S. as of February 2026.

What they’re saying
“Now, pet owners can mobilize the whole community—and communities are empowered to help—to find lost pets more effectively than ever before. That's why we believe it's so important to make this feature available to anyone who shares a lost dog post in Neighbors.”
— Jamie Siminoff, Founder, Ring (TechCrunch)
What’s next
Ring plans to continue expanding its partnerships with animal welfare organizations to further integrate its camera systems into shelters and rescue efforts, with the goal of reuniting even more lost pets with their owners.
The takeaway
Ring's expansion of its Search Party feature demonstrates the potential for smart home technology and community-based tools to help address real-world challenges, in this case making it easier for pet owners to find their lost furry friends with the support of their neighbors.
