Two Jefferson Township High School wrestlers, Christopher Frank (138 pounds) and Frank Figel (113 pounds), won first place titles at the NJSIAA District 2 tournament. Junior Braedan Cummings also placed third in the 157-pound bracket.
Why it matters
The strong performances by the Jefferson Township wrestlers prove that the school's wrestling program still has talent, despite the team's 7-17 record and failure to qualify for the sectional tournament this season.
The details
Frank Figel Jr. was able to return to competition after dislocating his shoulder and injuring his clavicle at the Morris County tournament final. He decided to drop down to the 113-pound weight class for districts and quickly dispatched his first two opponents. In the final, Figel earned a technical fall victory over Newton's Jacob McConnnel. Christopher Frank claimed three pins en route to the 138-pound title, including a second-period pin of sixth-seeded Michael Timpone in the final.
